When you first buy your home, chances are that it is clean, pristine, and in top-notch condition. Yet, as the years drag on, nature will take its toll, causing dirt, moss, and mold to collect on your roof. When this happens, some homeowners might use either soft washing or pressure washing to clean their rooftops. However, only one method is best for roof cleaning.
Pressure washing
Pressure washing can be effective when cleaning a driveway, but there are plenty of risks involved with a rooftop. A pressure washer will wash off any dirt, moss, or mold that may have collected through the years, but it can also damage your shingles and your granules. This could result in leaks or missing shingles that will take years off of your roof’s lifespan. As a result, it’s best to only use pressure washing on concrete surfaces.
Soft washing
Soft washing, meanwhile, can remove the same amount of dirt and grime as pressure washing, but without causing any extra damage. First, any moss or mold is killed and/or loosened. Then, anything that remains is washed off with water. Soft washing uses a large amount of water volume at lower pressure, as opposed to pressure washing which has a low water volume and high pressure.
